I’ve got a new obsession and I happened to stumble upon it at Fresh Market. Bear with me if you are all familiar with this, this…thing….I had no clue until today that they actually existed. I couldn’t help but take a long whiff of the yellow, octopus looking thing while I googled the name posted on the sign “Citrus Medica”. The lemony fragrance had me hooked before google gave me it’s nickname, Buddha’s hand. According to my search I could use the rind for the zest, make marmalade and flavor liquors with it.
Skip the cooking part, I’ve got enough on my plate, I figured I could use them for something else. I have to admit I felt like I was adopting four gremlins into our home. I was kind of freaked out but really excited to show the guys at home what I had found.
After a bit more Googling I found out Buddha’s fingers are an Asian New Year’s staple for good fortune. They place these year round on tables to bring good luck to those that live in the home.
NEED I SAY MORE….bells went off in my head. This thing is the perfect Name Card Holder for my dinner guests this Thanksgiving! It’s got the color, the smell is great and I am sure it will be a great topic of discussion at the dinner table that night. What better gift at the end of the night than their own good luck charm to bring all the good fortune 2012 will bring. I know…brilliant! 🙂
